Our Elders & Deacons

What are Elders?

We believe the New Testament design for the local church is to have a group of Elders who lead (not rule) the church. As a result, the Elders report directly to the church.

We believe the Biblical qualities for Elders are of men whose lives reflect the those described in 1 Tim 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9.

Biblically, Elders should fulfill responsibilities set forth in 1 Tim 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9. Generally, Elders should fulfill the following. 1. Provide pastoral teaching, oversight, and care for the members of Galilee Baptist Church. 2. Administer and make decisions concerning any item contained in the Church Operating Manual.
3. Examine, discern, and make recommendations to the church concerning any item contained in the Bylaws or Articles of Incorporation.

What are Deacons?

We believe the New Testament design for the local church is to have a group of Deacons who serve (not rule) the church. As a result, the Deacons report directly to the church.

We believe the Biblical qualities for Deacons are men whose lives reflect those described in Acts 6:3 and 1 Tim 3:8–12.

Biblically, Deacons should fulfill responsibilities set forth in Acts 6:1–6 and 1 Tim 3:8–12. Generally, Deacons should fulfill the following. 1. Assist the Elder body in meeting the pastoral needs of the church. 2. Work to maintain the unity of the church.
